Line Stretching!I really enjoyed a fishing trip recently with Marlin Marcum, Marvin Self and his son Colby from Post Texas. It had been a while since these fellows had visited the coast for some coastal fishing. It had also been a long time since they had ever latched onto something other than a Black Bass or Red Ear Sun Perch! That ended when they scored with a few over size Black Drums while fishing for Trout! These fish were ready to fight and just the size that can give you quite a battle! They had quite a time trying to bring these fish to the net! I heard a bit of grunting and it wasn’t from the sow Drum either! Way to go guys, you got both of them in! Both Marlin and Marvin could care less about taking pictures of the Trout, they wanted everyone back home to see the Monster’s! I just hope they can return in October, November to tie into some Bull Reds!
While talking to Marvin about my Power Stroke I recently purchase, he told me how his brother could make a Power Stroke out run a Vet and that it was unbelievable how much horsepower and torque you could get out of a Ford Power Stroke. He just thought that sooped up Power Stroke had torque! They both found out that some of the fish in our coastal waters have some get up and go and they come stocked that way right out of the factory! Thanks again guys for a great trip! For the last couple of weeks, we have been catching limits of trout averaging around 17 to 22 inches and limits have been common. When fishing the gas wells or deep shell pads, Croakers seem to catch the best Trout if fished early but don’t be surprised if you have to switch to Shrimp or Lures later in the morning just to get a bite! Two days in a row, we couldn’t get a bite after 9am in deep water on Croakers. This is not true while wading grass beds or shallow water to 5 ft. but I have noticed that shrimp rigged in tandom with another lure on bottom works the best later in the day at the gas wells. Lure color has been Black with a Chartreuse tail in the bays Hope you get your line stretched soon! Capt. Thiggy David Thigpen 361-972-6502 |
